Clearly being named “Emotional Freedom Techniques” EFT at its roots deals with emotional issues. Even our physical issues are very often caused or at least contributed to by emotions. Although you can tap directly for physical symptoms your EFT will be more effective and permanent in it’s effect if you acknowledge the emotional contributers.
A few leading questions you can use to get your mind to discover the emotional roots of any issue are:
- When is the earliest I can remember feeling this way? What was going on in my life at that time?
- If there could be an emotional cause to this, what might that be?
- If there were some secondary benefit to having this issue, what might that be?
So, as you can see, even physical EFT is really emotional EFT.

EFT actually stands for Emotiona Freedom Techniques, plural. EFT is a collection of techniques. These include:
- The tearless Trauma Technique
- The Movie Technique
- The Choices Method
- Chasing the Pain
- … and more.
There’s also a certain amount of Brain Gym in there, Eye Access Zones, Self acceptance work, Beleif Change work, Core issue work, etc.
So, as you can see, in order to master EFT you must go beyond the basic recipe. Fortunately Gary Craig has made the learning process very affordable with his sets of training DVDs… which you can check out here if you like… www.emofree.com/EFTStore.

Sometimes the simplest parts get overlooked in the training. How do you tap?
First of all, locate the accupressure points (you can use my free illustrated EFT Cheat Sheet to do this… just sign up for it in the sidebar of my website, www.coachwithscott.com, and the download link and instructions will be emailed to you within minutes).
Now, while stating your affirmation, tap repeatedly on the points, at least eight times per point.
How hard to tap? Gently. We don’t want you bruising yourself. You just have to be able to feel it pressing into the point a bit.
How fast to tap? Well, it’s up to you. I tap about six taps per second. Some people do two per second. Try it out and see what feels right to you.
You can even vividly imagine tapping the point without actually raising a finger and it will still work. Why? Because just keeping your attention on the point with the intention to stimulate it is what stimulates it. The physical tapping is a very powerful way to create that focus.

What does it take to become an EFT practitioner? Although EFT looks simple on the surface, it takes a lot of study and practice to become an effective EFT practitioner. The basic recipie can be pretty effective a lot of the time, but it won’t effectively clear complex issues. Emotional Freedom Technique is an art form requireing sound knowledge of what to do when it doesn’t seem to be working, and an intuition of what lies beneith the surface of what people are reporting to you, the EFT practitioner.
Technically speaking, if you are a talented EFTer you can have a lot of success as a practitioner without even being certified. If y ou want to be listed as a certified practitiner though, there’s a rigorous study and testing process to go through, which you can find on Gary Craig’s (the grandaddy of EFT) website at www.emofree.com.

EFT a beautiful meditation tool. What are some of the issues that come up for you whey you’re trying to meditate? Busy Mind? Impatience? Boredom? Anxiety?
You can tap for these things before, during or after your meditation. Simply identify what it is that’s interfereing, and tap for it. For example, let’s say you get anxious or antsy during meditation. Tap using a phrase such as “Even though I feel anxious and antsy when I meditate, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
Use EFT to prime yourself for a deeper meditation experience.

There is a lot of crossover between psychotherapy and EFT counseling. However EFT is not really talk therapy per se. In EFT we do just enough talking to discover what issue to tap for, and then we immediately start tapping to clear the negative emotional charge behind it. This avoids retraumatizing the client, because we don’t talk about anything you’re not ready to talk about.
One thing to note is that EFT will only release the unnecessary emotional charge. Your Higher self or inner wisdom will know what it’s ready to release and what it needs to keep for the moment. So sometimes when things still need to be lived through we will only be able to release part of the emotional charge.

Healing doesn’t have to be painful.
Take a slooowww deeeep breath right now…
Breathe in….
Breathe out…
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) really works. I’ve used it to facilitate many amazing shifts, including physical pain, emotional issues, and limiting or self destructive thinking patterns.
As a healer I’m here to eliminate suffering. Physical issues and thinking/emotional issues are almost always intertwined. However one or the other tends to dominate one’s attention. I’ve had a great success helping people with physical healing, including pain due to illness or injury; structural, chronic and unexplainable. I’ve also had great success with emotional challenges including; thinking/feeling patterns; phobias fears and aversions; and limiting beliefs that control self esteem, well being and success in relationships, careers, and physical health. Healing sessions are generally done on an as needed basis.
(I’ve put a more comprehensive list of specific issues I’ve worked with on the “Is This YOU?” page. To go there now, click here.)
As a coach I’m here to help you change your focus and put your attention on your strength. Where attention goes, energy flows, and results show. So let’s grow your strength, shall we? Coaching is a systematic process of regularly scheduled support. Once or twice a week, or once every two weeks is ideal to keep you on track with your goals. Healing is a part of these coaching sessions. In fact, I see coaching as a healing modality. Coaching heals patterns. It unfolds deep multilayered issues like a blooming flower, petal by petal growing open and strong. It’s a system of personal transformation.
